nelson moves to va today, nolan is in long island, matt is working and i’m somewhat awake. last night i got to rehearse and lend my guitar talents (ha!) for a song that our good friend jeffrey fields is putting together called ‘measure the sea’ (which when i got the mp3 i thought it was called ‘measure these a’).

one of the best things about playing in a band is meeting such talented and cool people. our friends missing pilots have a new album coming out on edius records and if the two mp3s on their site are any indication, the record’s going to be amazing. and the ever supportive steve shomo and friends are starting up a label called still contagious records, with releases coming out very soon.

played nelson’s final show at temple last night. the fact that the turnout was pretty bad was only compounded by the size of that place. it could have made for demoralizing night #646 in the history of my life as a lazy indie-rock musician, but this is why it’s great to play shows with your friends. i hadn’t seen kitty kat dirt nap play since last spring and i really should make the effort to check them out more. they are just super cool, genuine and good-hearted people. we played third and kept it short. it wasn’t our best set by any means but at least the folks that were there gave us the illusion of an attentive and rabid audience. thanks so much to our friend shelly from mini band for setting up the show and being so cool.

i’ve gotten a couple of e-mails asking what’s next and to be honest, i’m at a complete and total loss right now. i have a solo show in a few weeks with alan from i dreamed of pompeii and we’re probably going to play a jazz odyssey set next month as well, but as far as definite plans for the future, who knows. like i said last month, hopefully we still have things to say and songs to write. so let’s keep in touch.

Monday, November 24th, 2003

last wednesday was our last reheasal with nelson. i wanted to do a real poignant ‘let’s all leave the empty room at once and then turn out the lights’ type of exit, like the final three’s company episode but it wasn’t happening. apparently there’s only so much room for cheese.

show tonight at temple university, yo. it looks like it’s now four bands, we go on third (like 8:30).

Monday, November 17th, 2003

the twilight singers show at the khyber on saturday night was sold out. grand fabric opened up, which is awesome for them. i’m was super jealous at first but at the same time if greg dulli ever checked out our set he’d beat the crap out of me for being such a poor knockoff. the new TS cd is a lot better than the first and matt played me a little bit of the GF cd the other night and it sounded really good. so go buy some cds today!

playing what may or may not be nelson’s last show next monday at the owl’s cove with our friends kitty kat dirt nap, the spinto band and one more tba. details below.

guns don’t kill people, fish n’ roses do. rage against pompeii was unbelievable and count chocula’s revenge was really good. it was super fun. we even got video of alan dancing. afterwards he set off a bottlerocket in the kitchen. too bad FNR only plays once every twenty years or so.

saturday was nolan’s (post) halloween party. monica’s big mac costume came in just in time and i went as triumph the insult comic dog. nolan was dressed as the pope, colleen was a fairy, kellee was a bat, pat and connie were a 30s-era gangster and flapper respectively while matt and nelson reprised their outfits as izzy and jizzy of fish n roses from the night before. i had too much fun insulting everyone as triumph; it’s amazing how saying ‘i keed, i keed’ will smooth just about anything over.

the nelson ciron farewell tour is winding down this month with a possible show at the 1619 house on the 14th and nelson’s final show on the 24th at temple. more soon.
