Sunday, June 29th, 2003

my ears are ringing pretty good thanks to last night’s show. we opened at the khyber and the city was just choked with beautiful people. really fit girls in little dresses, equally fit guys walking around in short sleeved black shirts. everyone in cell phones. empty conversation and forced laughter. dead eyes, quiet desperation and the scent of urine permeating the air. anyway, we played and it went pretty well. people started coming in after one or two songs in, thank god. sound was decent; some feedback onstage but it wasn’t a big deal. we played a new song called ‘nothing ever stays buried’. met some people afterwards that were really cool.

the three four tens were really fun and lefty’s deceiver went on last. it turns out that the mike kennedy from LD is the same one i went to high school with. he was a year or two above me. he was a good drummer then and he’s an awesome drummer now. i talked to him for a little bit and he was super nice. he lost the high school mullet but didn’t we all? they were great.

we have basement show this sunday july 6 in new brunswick nj with our good friends u.s. rail. i was supposed to play guitar in place of joel but he’ll be back in town for a wedding. whew!

Monday, June 23rd, 2003

on the bright side, saturday’s show wasn’t a complete washout, literally and figuratively speaking; but it was about as close as you could get. the weather was rotten all day long and we just kept our gear under a tarp for the most part. it sure as hell wasn’t ideal but jessica did a great job of making sure everything stayed on schedule. thanks to grooveground for having us play; i just don’t know how great of an idea it is to try and put on a big indie music fest outside during the day. i mean, have you seen how freaking pale most indie kids are? it’s like watching a bunch of newborn mice roll around in the daylight before their eyes even open. put some black-rimmed glasses on them and then you’d have something.

anyway, the night is our friend and we have an almost comically great show for you this saturday at the khyber in philadelphia. us, lefty’s deceiver (my pal god records) and the three four tens (file 13 records). i’m usually not the type to say that you *have* to come out to a show, but if you’re going to come out to one of our philly shows and you’ve been on the fence about it, debating with yourself and pacing your room, “do i want to plunk down my hard earned dime for this?” the answer is an emphatic yes, yes, YES, this is the one. okay, that’s about the extent of the hard sell from me.

Thursday, June 19th, 2003

transferring the site over to our new server over the next 24 hours. i think the only glaring things missing from the site are shoutbox and the mp3s. also, while the forums are indeed working, you may have to delete your old cookie(s) before you can log in. we’ll be back online in full effect at some point this weekend.

tomorrow (saturday) we’re playing a big local outdoor show in collingswood nj for grooveground’s 1st anniversary. other bands include the french connection, the new anxiety, girl upstairs, prufrock and three others. everything starts at 12 and we go on around 5. we were talking about this last night and we realized that every time we’ve played outside it’s been an unmitigated disaster. check out this thread about shows gone horribly wrong for some other doozies.

Sunday, June 15th, 2003

last night in new brunswick nj was a real good time. the door guy was mean as hell to everyone again. i told him we were in apple of discord and he goes, ‘grrrrrr! are you bragging or ashamed? grrrrrrr!’ before he stamped us in. i wonder if it’s a schtick or if he’s really that miserable. anyway, we really enjoyed ourselves. all the bands - mercy jar, sovenskya and amber brown vision - played great sets and we actually sounded more decent than not. i kept knocking my guitar out of tune trying to do my cool windmill guitar moves. kurt does such an amazing job with sound at that place. he’s my favorite sound guy ever. we were feeling so good that we even busted out our half-assed cover of journey’s ’separate ways’. rob from abv and jason from slow wire took a bunch of photos. we were sweating like indie-rock hogs out there and i think i broke my personal record for stupid rock faces and tongue wagging. i’m sure those will come out real good.

Tuesday, June 3rd, 2003

the weekend was soggy but fun. friday night we played in lancaster, pa playing with eyewisheye at the chameleon club. security was ridiculous, the bartender was awesome, the sound worked, ewe was great, we played a good set and it was hot. it was better than the last time we were there. kris presented us with a giant hershey bar mid-set. went to the hotel and back out to some shady diner downtown to eat what may or may not have been ‘chicken tips and eggs’. i was so hungry it could have been ‘fingertips and eggs’ and i wouldn’t have griped.

with the forboding weather, i was lobbying that we go check out model trains and the a’maize’ing corn maze in strasburg. it’s a good thing no one listens to me because we went to hershey park on saturday and it was really fun. it rained a lot but everyone but me got to go on most of the rides. i checked out the animals at the new zooamerica exhibit which was cool.

sunday i went up to new brunswick for joel’s bachelor party, which for losers like us consisted of eating at harold’s new york deli restaurant and eating an 18″ high BLT and following that up with laser tag and videogames. over ice cream we talked about the upcoming a-team movie and how we’d cast it. i’d go with robert redford as hannibal, jim carrey as murdoch, colin farrell as face and a cgi rendered b.a. baracus.

u.s. rail’s last show with joel before he moves to washington is this saturday the 7th at the court tavern in new brunswick. they play with the blakes so it should be great.
